Maximize your profit potential
The bottom line is you'll make a lot more money if you don't try to do everything yourself. Don't be cheap. I talk to smog technicians, mechanics, and detailers all the time who hate doing business with dealers because there all such cheap skates. I pay my detailer $200 for each car. It's worth it because he makes the cars look new. I don't mind paying him a good amount because he's making more money for me. You'll rarely find a dealer willing to pay what I pay for a detail, and they don't make as much off of each car they sell because of it.
Don't try to do everything. Don't clean the cars, and don't fix the cars. Hire someone else who can do it ten times better, and faster than you can. If you try to do everything you won't make much money.
Your a dealer. Not a mechanic, not a detailer, not body man, but a dealer Your job is going to be to:
Buy, and sell cars. Buy low, and sell high.
Find great bargains Whether it's at an auction, or from a private party, you're a bargain hunter. Scour the classifieds, check out the pre-sale lists at the auctions. Find your niche cars. My niche cars are Mercedes, Volvo, and VW. If you see a good deal don't procrastinate.
Find a good detailer
When I was first starting out I used to clean all the cars myself. I was doing a good job but it was very time consuming. I could have been spending that time doing other things like buying, and selling cars Don't be cheap with your detail. A good detail will help you sell your car much faster, and for more money. Right after the detail has been done the car is really shining. This is the best time to take the pictures for your add. Take pictures of the car from different angles. I like to take pictures on my knees showing the front, and side of the vehicle. It's a good angle because the camera lense is at the same height as the vehicle. Most people take pictures of the vehicle standing up. You can get pictures this way too but my point is to experiment with different angles, and light. Try all sorts of different pictures. Some in the bright light, some in the shade, some with a nice background like the woods, or the beach, and compare them all. Taking good pictures for your adds is key
Don't wait too long to call people back
If someone is calling about your car for sale, don't wait too long to call them back. If you wait too long to get back to them there is a good chance they could have already boughten a another car.
